Outdoor Projection Screen Material

A good projection screen is one which is made up of high quality reflective material. Whether its a rear or front projection screen, its the material that plays the important role. It is the quality of the material which ascertains the quality of the projection screen. To make an outdoor projection screen one needs to take care of certain aspects, namely -
  • Size of the screen
  • Budget
  • Quality of projector
  • Quality of projection screen material
If these aspects are properly accounted for, one can make a good outdoor projection screen. As for the material, one can choose among the following:
  • Paint: This paint is similar to the one used on walls but it allows high contrast viewing. The demerit is that one won't find such a large chunk of outdoor wall which is absolutely flat. Also, regular paint coating is to be applied as weather will affect it.
  • Flexiblesetups: These flexible materials are specially made to act as projection screens, front as well as rear. One can install the projection screen, use it and then replace it. These can be used roughly and in outdoors.
  • Cloth: It is one of the best materials which can be used as media. It is plain, flat and durable. Blackout cloth can be used for outdoor as well as indoor displaying.
  • Tyvek: It is manufactured by DuPont and is one of the most preferred outdoor projection screen material. It is cheap yet durable and perfect.

Best projection screen size for room

Choosing the right projector system for a room is as important as selecting the right sofa or coffee table. A person spends a lot of money buying a state of the art home theatre, but spoils the whole fun by choosing a wrong sized projection screen. To choose an adequate screen one should take care of the following aspects, namely :

Size of room: A projector screen should be according to the room size. A general ceiling height we get is of 8 feet, which limits options because the screen cannot be below 5 feet. It should be kept at an adequate height so that there is no straining of necks.

Aspect ratio: It is the term used to depict the ratios between the width and the height of the projection screen. The best ratio to be selected is 16:9 which is compatible with all HD broadcasts.

Material: The best material used for projection screens is vinyl which is coated with reflective coating. This gives the best quality viewing.

Gain: This refers to the light reflecting quality of the screen. The Gain should be such that light only falls on eyeballs and not throughout the room. This can be understood as sharpness and focus of the projection screen.

Room interior: The room should be painted and decorated with warm colors so that light is absorbed and not reflected everywhere. Warm colors provide a soothing and comfortable viewing.

These are some of the aspects which should be considered while choosing the best projector screen size for room.
